Things are beginning to wrap up in school and I am very much looking forward to the end result of the semester! Graduation is right around the corner (43 days to be exact--thanks, countdown widget!) and I am pumping out work like crazy. New campaigns and interactive pieces are going to be added within the next couple of days.

I have also been building my portfolio book from scratch, using chipboard, fabric and the amazing silkscreening skills of Damon.

Hope everyone had an amazing Halloween! Apparently, my pumpkin won "Most Likely To Drop Out of the Academy of Art." We'll see about that.

When I left in May, I was ready to turn my heel and keep walking forward. Now, school has brought me back, willingly or not, and all I've done is lay my head down on the same ol' pillow in the same ol' bed. Never in my life have I turned around and walked back. Now, I feel like I've been walking the same damn circle for years. I'm ready for a fresh view now.

As a creative in the field of advertising, the hardest brand to create and promote is that of my own. This summer, I embarked on a journey to find my voice and style in art direction and design.

While on this adventure, I discovered that in today’s digital world, people still love to touch, feel and open things—in this case, a package. Think about how every time you get something in the mail, it’s either a bill or an advertisement. But when you get a package, it is something you had previously picked out and were expecting, thus making its anticipated arrival much like opening a present on Christmas.

I created my identity and portfolio into a pseudo FedEx box, required the recipient to physically open up the box, ensuring that I have caught their attention and they now know, or at least have read, my name. After opening up the box, each creative director will have to physically go through each piece of my portfolio—from opening up the little bag to view business cards, personalized sharpies, and popping in my interactive projects CD to flipping through my integrated campaign pamphlets and unfolding my posters.

Well, imaginary audience, this marks my last month of summer in Brooklyn. Last week, we rode down on a beautiful, sunny ride to Fort Tilden, where I soaked up the sun, splashed in water and mysteriously got sand in everything I own--a lovely way to spend the day and truly enjoy summer.

This summer has been an eye-opener, to say the least, and I'm sad to have to leave, especially the fun people and experiences I've had in the last two months. Can't believe it's already August and I'm counting down the days to my return to the w(b)est coast!

It's almost time to embark on yet another adventure--my last and final semester at the Academy of Art.

When I worked as a production designer at UC Berkeley last year, I got the opportunity to work on the Campaign for Berkeley--those funny little flags and signs that are all around UC Berkeley's campus, so appropriately named, "Thanks to Berkeley..."

The end result was a 70-foot wall with pictures of all these students, faculty members, alumni and other Cal community members in this black and white photobooth style. I got to work with the photographer, Christopher Irion during one of Berkeley's biggest campus events that welcomes new and incoming students. Also, there were banners hanging up around campus proclaiming each department and their territories, so that was a lot of fun, too.

Each person also had to write down a quote that answered the "Thanks to Berkeley..." beginning. Some of these were used around campus and on the 70-foot wall overlaid on top of their picture. It was fun to see and work with the people who made the Cal community what it is. Kind of almost made me wish I went there!

Anyways, this is my picture. A nice little memento of my time at Berkeley.

Went to Bikram Yoga for the first time since last Summer.
My legs, arms, and spine all hurt but it was more than worth the sweat and energy exerted to feel this amazing.

And now, sitting in front of me, are 2 Sugar Free Red Bulls, Wheat Thins and who knows how many hours of homework I have. But! Pandora will always keep me company, no matter what time of day (or night, really). Cheers to another crazy Spring Semester..

I can't stop listening to this. She & Him are coming to Oakland at the end of May, and I really wish I could see them, it's going to be such a fun show, one that I will regret missing for the rest of my life! epic!

New York was amazing, thanks to Andrew, Halina, and of course, Penny, for letting us crash your apartment. Interviews went amazingly well, I am currently deciding between two, and even considering taking both. I think they will take me in different directions that can really open a lot of doors for me. I just have to think things through and figure things out before settling down and confirming with the companies, but I am very excited for Summer in New York! Oh, and the joys of trying to find an apartment in New York, yuck!

Seven days from today Damon and I will be on our way to New York! I got another interview today with a company I was really hoping for, and am super excited to see what great things will happen that week. After all, you make your own luck, right?

I have reached my goal of $750 for helping homeless youth with At The Crossroads! Since my friends and family are so fabulous, I am raising my end goal to $1000. Next Thursday (March 11th), Rachel Fletcher, Erica Morse and I are going to be bartending at Etiquette Lounge (Market/7th) in order to raise money for all three of our campaigns. All tips will be donated to At The Crossroads, so come support us, homeless youth, and fun dance parties!

Also, Monday, March 8th is The Art Show Show at Amsterdam Cafe. I'll be working and dancing, so come have fun with me and all my friends :) Support local artists and amazing beer

Help Me Help Homeless Youth!

The "Bitchin Bike Babe" Campaign

As I am an avid fan of bicycles and enjoying life, I am very pleased to announce that I am working with At The Crossroads in their "I Think I Can" Campaign to raise money for homeless youth here in San Francisco. Now, you may think that all homeless youth are screw-ups, but in fact, they are victims of horrible situations and events that were/are out of their control. At The Crossroads is a lovely non-profit organization which helps to turn lives around, by guiding these youth to counseling, finding housing and jobs, and overall a second chance at life--which we all deserve.

My wonderful roommate, Rachel Fletcher, is one of their many staff members who has turned me onto this idea of campaigning my love for bicycles to help homeless youth.

So, I am riding 1,000 miles on my bicycles (track and road) this year to help homeless youth. My goal is to reach $750, which ultimately is me riding my bicycle BUTT NAKED on a beach in the City with the lovely Erica Morse, who will be running naked on the beach after she reaches her goal of $1000!

I would be honored and so pleasantly pleased if you would take the time to help me help homeless youth! And of course, reach my goal of riding my bicycle 1,000 miles and NAKED across the finish line! The link to my campaign is below:

New Year. New Outlook. New Styles.

I think I will be slowly transitioning to Tumblr or Wordpress later this month, based on their capabilities and population. We shall see.

Next Monday, I will be petitioning to graduate and signing up for the rest of my senior classes. This will hopefully boil down to 2 Summer Intersession classes and NO SUMMER CLASSES (!!) and 3 Fall classes. I am currently in the process of contacting people in New York City for Summer Internships so I can get my foot in the door for when I move out there in say, February. February for now. Either way, I will enjoy my summer of experience either in SF or NYC, and I couldn't ask for anything better.

I have mixed feelings about the "legend" known as Roland Young. He loves me, my work, and sometimes I love him, but most times I feel like I need to challenge him. Today's meeting was frustrating, but getting to talk to him later at the Palace Hotel was something I really needed in order to figure things out. He has invited his previous students to sit in on his Friday morning Creativity class, free of charge, and no responsibility to do homework, which is fabulous. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

GreenCitizen is a blast, I am so excited to work for something I believe in and can actually use to make a difference with my philosophies.

I have landed myself an internship at Titan, which is an out of home advertising company, and I am extremely pleased to be starting soon! It will be an interesting experience from a different perspective, and definitely something great to learn from. I've also been in the process of being hired as the graphic design intern for GreenCitizen, a great company downtown that recycles and repairs used electronics. I am excited for this because it is something I strongly believe in, and I think that it is time to take action on spreading my philosophies.

School starts in less than two weeks. God help us all.

Yesterday, I found out that Melinda, our beloved head director for the Academy of Art's Advertising Department has been promoted, thus leaving us with two new head directors, Ellen Shakespeare and Roland Young. At first I had quite the panic attack, since I have trusted Melinda and her opinion for the last two years, I felt almost abandoned. However, I have come to realize that this is actually great news! Why? Well, because both Roland and Ellen have had experience at Art Center in Pasadena, California, and I think that this kind of new exposure to our work will greatly shape how the rest of my portfolio goes.

This is my senior year in Advertising and I have to really step it up in order to wow and impress my future employers. Although I have mixed feelings about Roland, I think that he will be a great influence on my work, and hopefully put a new spin on my work that I've been needing the last couple of semesters. After all, he helped to shape my lovely Bianchi ads.

Speaking of Bianchi, I am working with Rachel Fletcher at At the Crossroads on their "I Think I Can" Campaign, which promotes people to pick goals and help raise money for the homeless youth. My goal for this is to ride 1000 miles on my bicycle in the allotted amount of time (2.5 months). I will have my profile page up hopefully within a couple of days, and now you'll be able to help homeless youth too!

Yes! I have officially wiped out my computer and it feels amazing. It is so much smarter now, and my programs are running at the speed of light again!

I saw Sherlock Holmes tonight, and it was so beautiful...the sets, costumes and styling were absolutely stunning. Even the type, on the signs that the picketers were using, was gorgeous. I love it, lovey.

You should hopefully be reading this from my freshly finished website! Being in Seattle, I've got a lot of time on hands, and what better way to spend it than by tapping into my inner nerd? (Not a surprise)

Before I left for Seattle, I sent out my book to a few notable places for an internship, and I was lucky enough to land an interview at WIRED Magazine. Hoping to hear back from them in January, I think it would be an amazing opportunity! Not to mention, it's only a short block away from my school building. Well, fancy that. I've also got an opportunity at Cutwater, a local ad agency that has ties with TBWA/Chiat/Day. I am looking forward to working with either of these companies, and I am anxious to get back to the City to get the ball started.
